The usage of the word "perishables" is well known for fresh products like fruits, vegetables or flowers but also includes fish, meat, photo material or films and pharmaceutical products.
All items and products which are temperature sensitive and therefore part of our business are summarized in the word "perishables".
A lot of people find it interesting that we also add the transportation of living farm and zoo animals to this term as those need special care, constant temperatures and a fast transportation around the world as well.
Referring to the most handled perishables as fruits, vegetables and flowers it is a fact that good temperature- and humidity-conditions and a fast transport in special equipment guarantees best quality and a longer "postharvest life" resp. "shelflife".
As an example papayas have a postharvest life of 9-21 days. If they are handled properly after harvest, stored and transported under the right conditions, i.e. protected from harmful ethylene gas exposure, the papayas will remain fresh and healthy for the consumer up to 10 days after delivery.
